Call for Papers

Special Issue of Theory and Critique of Psychology (www.teocripsi.com)

Liberation Psychology 25 years after Martín-Baró: Remembering and Contemporary Challenges

Editors: Fernando Lacerda and Ignacio Dobles

In the next year, during the month of November, Martín-Baró would be celebrating his 72nd birthday. However, instead of that, we will be remembering that 25 years ago, a special force from the army of El Salvador brutally assassinated Nacho and his colleagues.

With the aim of remembering the life and the work of Ignacio Martín-Baró, Teoría y Crítica de la Psicología will publish a special issue about Liberation Psychology. This special issue will contain: (1) contributions from colleagues who lived and worked with Martín-Baró; (2) papers with critical debates related to the legacy of Martín-Baró works and/or proposing new developments and challenges for Liberation Psychology; (3) unpublished papers of Martín-Baró that will come to the light for the first time.

This special issue will focus to give at least to contributions to Liberation Psychology: (1) to promote the diffusion of Martín-Baró writings that usually are celebrated, but hardly seriously studied; (2) to present debates about Liberation Psychology today, i.e., to develop critical discussion on how the Martín-Baró approach to Psychology can give foundations to criticize a world that, like 25 years ago, is unjust, unequal and profoundly destructive.

The editors of this special issue suggest that articles to be submitted tackle one of the following subjects:

  1. Critical reviews of Martín-Baró ideas;
  2. Research reports using theoretical-methodological contributions of Martín-Baró's Critical Social Psychology
  3. Liberation Psychology today: Issues and contemporary challenges
  4. Psychosocial processes of oppression and liberation
  5. Liberation Psychology, anti-capitalism and social struggles
  6. Liberation Psychology and other fields (Community Psychology, Political Psychology, Critical Psychology…)

Manuscripts for this special issue has to be written in Portuguese or Spanish (English-speaking authors can contact the editors in order to check possibilities of translation) and  must be between 1,500 and 10,000 words following the editorial guidelines of the journal available at: http://www.teocripsi.com/instrucciones.php.

The manuscripts will be evaluated according to the criteria of the journal (format, internal consistency, rigorous argumentation, theoretical and critical potential, originality, radicalism/alternativity, delimitation and scope, general interest of readers of Critical Psychology, references, theoretical support of the developed discussion) complemented by the evaluation of the articulation between the paper and the subject of the special issue.

The deadline for the submission of manuscripts is April 15th through electronic format (*.doc, *.docx OR *.rtf) to the following address: teocripsiliber

.  Questions, suggestions and comments can be sent to the same address.
