Rethinking Heteronormativity, Labor, and Desire
Vortrag und Diskussion mit S. Charusheela
It has proved difficult to bring the desiring/sexual/choosing female body, and the laboring/reproductive/exploited female body into a joint frame of reference. The models available to us see the sexual body through the figure of desire and choice, and the reproductive body through the figure of labor/(re)production and exploitation. In her lecture S. Charusheela asks in which our understandings of both desire and labor would need to be changed to overcome this problematic split that forces us to oscillate between languages of choice and languages of exploitation.
S. Charusheela problematisiert in ihrem Vortrag die theoretische Abspaltung eines begehrenden/sexuellen weiblichen Körpers, der frei wählen kann, von einem arbeitenden/reproduktiven Körper, der ausgebeutet wird. Sie diskutiert Möglichkeiten, unser Verständnis von Begehren und Arbeit zu ändern, um diesen problematischen Dualismus zu überwinden.

S. Charusheela ist Professorin am Department of Interdisciplinary Arts and Sciences der
Universität Washington in Bothell. Sie lehrt und forscht zu postkolonialer Theorie, queerer
Theorie, Marxismus und Feminismus.
Karin Schönpflug lehrt und forscht im Bereich feministischer Ökonomie und postkolonialer Kritik.
Weiters findet mit S. Charusheela am Freitag, den 15. Juni 2012, 16.00 Uhr ein Workshop im SR IE,
Campus Hof 5 statt.
